ROB CALDER & BUFFALO GIRL

Amoungst the masses of people at the Byron Bay surf festival I happened to be drawn to a beautiful earthy lady from New York City called Lisa.  Lisa, her husband a bassist currently playing in Australia, and I became instant friends.  After spending some time getting to know them better, Rob and I put our heads together to come up with my first and much anticipated custom made guitar strap.

Rob Calder is a freelance bassist from New York City.  He has played with some of the most talented Australian bands to date. His portfolio in short consisting of stars like Angus and Julia Stone, Paul Kelly, Ari Hest (NY), Declan O'Rouke (Ireland), Michael Brunnock (NY) 

and Kanye West (USA).  

So my new friends are not just beautiful on the inside and out they are very talented too! Rob has spent the last few weeks mentoring me on making a guitar strap with precision.  To my delight I have released the first Buffalo Girl guitar strap - something I have been dreaming about all year.  

Rob and Lisa have been visiting Australia off and on for the last 2 years and have felt the Byron pull each time.  This time living here for the last 2 months soaking up the nature and relaxed atmosphere the Bay has to offer.  Lovers of riding their bikes everywhere and letting their hair down they find Byron Bay to be "the perfect antidote" for two humble New York City dwellers.

 You've been and inspiration to me Rob & Lisa, I am going to miss you guys.... and the jalepeno magaritas!

Buffalo Girl in Colorado...

We left Taos & headed for Durango, Colorado arriving on a Saturday night. Naturally we opted to drink at a bar called "Wild Horses" where we danced the night away with handsome cowboys doing the 2 step. With a sore head in the morning we didn't spare any time and bolted for the closest place we could ride horses, finding a great ranch called Rustlers Roost Ranch in Cortez. We rode up through the mountains passing wild deer and seeing spectacular views looking down into the valley of Cortez. Finding a building with "Buffalo handmade" on it gave me a feeling of finding home.

My American journey was one I will never forget. As much as my adventure was a blissful piece of heaven on earth, I found it hard to move on falling in love with the people and places in every state.

Miss you already. See ya'll next year!

Tipsy Gypsy

Last  Saturday night the girls and I ventured out to our gorgeous  girlfriend's house in Broken Head for her Tipsy Gypsy birthday bash. Her  divine home is a stunning dusty-orange Moroccan-style stone castle with  a goldmine of romantic gypsy decorations! I was in heaven!  

So many yummy bright colored fabrics, tassels, head scarves, roses, candles, skull ornaments, and vintage-retro paintings... and the view looked out onto our gorgeous town in Byron bay lit only by the moon and the stars and the flashing globe from the lighthouse. Luckily the weather held up and blew a surprisingly warm winter breeze onto our skin.

Margaritas aplenty... and lots of dancing ...we had a fun night! xxx Spelly

Buffalo Girl in New Mexico!

The food, streets & people of New Orleans was a hard part of the journey to beat. After being dragged off the streets and into the hotel room where I threw all my possessions into my suitcase in a made rush to catch the flight from New Orleans to Albuquerque, I was feeling exhausted yet content. On arrival in Albuquerque we went straight for the red mustang convertable, just managing to squeeze our luggage in the boot and hit the highway to Santa Fe where we chilled for three days. There is an incredible abundance of turquoise jewellery and cowboy boots in Santa Fe... needless to say I was in HEAVEN. After resting up, we drove on through, top down and wind blowing in our hair to Taos, New Mexico. Taos is a cultural community of artisans and cowboys. Again, I was in heaven. I bought my first cowboy hat and went straight for the horse riding trails on the Indian reservation. After a day of exploring the wilderness, which included seeing a cyote, rattle snakes and bears we rested our head at the best historic bed and breakfast we could have found Lan Dona Luz Inn. Oh and I should mention... opting to stay in the honeymoon sweet with a roof top spa overlooking the whole of Taos. What a way to finish our stay in New Mexico.

A big thankyou to the guys at the Taos Indian Horse Ranch! We so loved hanging out with you guys.

American Tripping

First up I hit the streets of Venice Beach, checked out all the cool shops and hung with the flamboyant locals.

We found some wicked cruisers and rode along the beach path to Santa Monica Pier stopping into Bubba Gump for some cajun shrimp and margaritas! After feeling completely satisfied we then lay on the sands of Venice Beach, watching some three foot left hand waves peeling and got really burnt! But oh it felt good to feel the sun!

Someone had gone to a lot of effort to erect this and needless to say it excited the child within us and we had to take a few snaps. You're never too old to enjoy an eco beach shack!

Being on the cover has given me a new creative spark, so watch out for my amazing new designs.

I'm so excited to announce that you can now shop for Buffalo Girl accessories online.

Those who know me, know that I don't really exist very comfortably in the online realm... I feel a lot happier chipping away in my leather workshop, out in the surf or motocross riding with my son Ryder... But fellow Byron Bay designers Lizzy and Spelly from SPELL have added a Buffalo Girl section to their online shop!

I'll be adding lots of new designs including more one-off headpieces, leather vests, belts, cuffs and more bags - and also a new fashion range for Summer.

I knew that it was time to pull together a Buffalo Girl photoshoot - it's been a long time coming.

But I didn't want to use models and have it all staged. I wanted it to be real...

I wanted to somehow capture a tiny glimpse of the "Buffalo Girl" lifestyle that my friends and I live every day here in Byron Bay.

So I rounded up a bunch of my girlfriends (no models!!) and we spent the day dressing up in my vast collection of Buffalo Girl embellished vintage pieces, belts, boots & one-off head-dresses. We drank champagne from morning till sunset.
